More than 140 participants from fourteen countries gathered in St Ann, Jamaica for the fifth staging of the Caribbean Youth Leaders’ Summit (CYLS). Dubbed as the premier transformational youth leadership development event within the Caribbean region, participants met September 30-October 3, 2017, and shared on various developmental issues, under the theme “Re-routing our GPS: Governance, Peace & Security.”
The four-day summit commenced with an opening ceremony. Summit organizers welcomed participants and offered condolences and words of encouragement to those affected by the recent hurricanes in our region. Speakers at the opening ceremony included, Minister of Education, Youth and Information, Senator Ruel Reid, USAID Acting Mission Director, Rebecca Robinson, Executive Director, National Integrity Action, Professor Trevor Munroe and Head of Youth Program Section, Commonwealth Secretariat, Layne Robinson.
CYLS was convened by the Caribbean Regional Youth Council (CRYC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information (MoEYI) in Jamaica, Sir Arthur Lewis Institute for Social and Economic Studies (SALISES) of the University of the West Indies, The United Nations Population Fund and other key public and private stakeholders to celebrate Caribbean Youth Day on September 30.
