Event: COVID-19 Updates – Testing and Quarantine of U.S. Citizens in Jamaica
- The Jamaican Ministry of Health and Wellness (MoHW) confirms 670 total cases of COVID-19 in Jamaica, with 518 recovered.
- The Cayman Islands Government confirms 196 total cases of COVID-19 in the Cayman Islands, with 169 recovered.
COVID-19 Protocols in Jamaica:
- U.S. citizens arriving in Jamaica should expect to be tested for COVID-19 upon arrival.
- Visitors testing positive for COVID-19 should expect to be isolated for at least fourteen (14) days in a public health facility operated by the Jamaican Ministry of Health and Wellness.
- Since the Jamaican government reopened its borders to international arrivals on June 15, 2020, all travelers must apply (and be approved) for a Travel Authorization through the Jamaica Tourist Board.
- The Travel Authorization requires applicants to acknowledge that they will bear the costs of compliance with COVID-19 protocols, which may include (but are not limited to) testing, transportation services, medical services, quarantine, isolation, and an extended stay.
- Visitors who test negative for COVID-19 are required to remain within the “COVID-19 Resilient Corridor.” The corridor is broadly defined to include coastal businesses from Negril to Port Antonio.
- U.S. citizens who are planning travel to Jamaica are strongly encouraged to review the information about Jamaica’s COVID-19 tourism protocols on the Jamaica Tourist Board website at: https://www.jtbonline.org/home/covid-19-tourism-protocols/.
Departure Options from Cayman Islands:
- The Cayman Islands Government is finalizing details of evacuation flights to the United States planned for July and August. Persons who have registered will be contacted directly about flight availability. Interested persons should email emergencytravel@gov.ky or call 1-345-244-3333 (M-F, 09:00-13:00)
- All airports in the Cayman Islands will remain closed to international leisure and non-essential travel until at least September 1, 2020.
