Important Passport Information

Payment Methods

Online Fee Payment

Beginning June 20, 2021, U.S. Embassy Kingston will begin accepting online fee payments for adult U.S. passport renewal applications.  Paying online allows you to mail your application to the U.S. Embassy without the need to apply in person.  Qualifying adult passport renewal applicants may pay the $130 passport renewal fee online via U.S. or international credit or debit card, electronic funds transfer from a U.S.-based bank account, Amazon Pay, or Pay Pal.  If you are renewing a passport, please visit our Renew an Adult Passport webpage to determine if you are eligible for online fee payment.

If you are renewing an adult passport, and qualify for online fee payment please submit your payment at pay.gov. After paying print your receipt and attach it to your mail-in application.

Forms and Payments

The U.S. Embassy and Consular Agency cashiers accept the following forms of payment for fees:

  • The U.S. Embassy in Kingston accepts all major U.S. or dual currency credit cards with a valid photo ID (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express), U.S. Dollars, Jamaican Dollars, International Postal Money Orders, or Traveler’s Checks (Cheques).  Personal Checks are NOT accepted!
  • The U.S. Consular Agency in the Cayman Islands accepts credit cards (American Express, Diners, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa) or debit cards displaying MasterCard or Visa logos as its only satisfactory methods of payment.  They do not accept checks, drafts, money orders or cash.
  • The U.S. Consular Agency in Montego Bay accepts Jamaican cash and all major U.S. credit cards with a valid photo ID (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express).

Appointments & Locations

Please be aware of the following when scheduling appointments:

  1. There is no charge for making or canceling an appointment.
  2. If you need to change your originally scheduled appointment, please cancel and reschedule.
  3. If you schedule more than one appointment for the same person, the system will automatically cancel both appointments.
  4. Every applicant needs a separate appointment.  For example, if you are making appointments for two siblings, you must schedule one appointment in each child’s name.
  5. Electronically complete and print the application form using the passport wizard before your appointment.
  6. We only accept government-issued photo identification such as a passport, driver’s license, or Jamaican voter registration card can be used as proof of identity.

 

The American Citizen Services Unit, in conjunction with our Consular Agencies in the Cayman Islands and Montego Bay, provides information and assistance to U.S. citizens in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.  At each location, U.S. citizens can submit applications for U.S. passports, document children born in Jamaica or the Cayman Islands, and request help in an emergency.

Security Information

The following is a list of items that are prohibited. Please do not bring such items to the embassy, as we do not have storage facilities for them. We regret any inconvenience this policy may cause.

  • Firearms
  • Knives
  • Scissors, other sharp objects, tools, or weapons of any kind
  • Lighters/Matches
  • Pepper Spray (Mace)
  • Radios, laptops, tablets, cameras, cellphones and other electronic or recording devices
  • Flammable liquids
  • Luggage and large bags
  • Alcoholic beverages of any kind
  • Other items prohibited by Jamaican law, or determined to be potentially hazardous or dangerous

Reasonable Accommodation

If you need reasonable accommodation for your appointment, we encourage you to request your accommodation immediately once you schedule your appointment. We make every effort to provide accommodations to persons with disabilities and medical conditions. Reasonable accommodations vary, depending on the situation and the person’s needs.
Examples of accommodations include, but are not limited to:

    • If you require a private appointment due to a medical condition or disability, we may schedule an alternative time for you to come in for your interview.
    • If you or your child has special needs that requires a private appointment in a quiet space without distractions, we may schedule an alternative time for you or your family to come in for your interview.
    • If you are unable to speak, you may be allowed to respond to questions in an agreed-upon nonverbal manner such as using pen and paper.
    • If you are deaf or hard of hearing, you may bring a sign language interpreter to translate during the interview if needed.
    • If you have low vision, we may provide you with communications in large print.

If you are unable to provide fingerprints because of a medical condition, including birth defects, physical deformities, skin conditions, you may qualify for a fingerprint waiver for certain fingers.

  • Interview waivers are only granted in extreme situations, such as having a medical condition that requires flying in an air ambulance.
