Michael Lavallee started his position as Public Affairs Officer at Embassy Kingston on November 13, 2023.
Prior to Kingston, he served in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs as the Deputy Spokesperson and Press Unit Chief. Previously he served as the Communications Director for the office of the Global Coalition to Counter ISIS and the Office of the Special Representative for Syria. He also worked in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs for five years as a senior press advisor on Iraq, Jordan, and Iran. Mr. Lavallee’s first assignment at the State Department was serving at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad from September 2009 to September 2010 as the Ambassador’s Senior Advisor for Strategic Communications.
Before joining the State Department he was a journalist for 15 years and served as Deputy Bureau Chief for Tokyo Broadcasting System in Washington in his last position.
Mr. Lavallee holds a Bachelor’s Degree in political science from the University of Massachusetts and a Master’s Degree in international relations from The American University in Washington, D.C. He is married and has two college-age children, William and Emma.
