U.S. Ambassador N. Nick Perry, along with Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr the Honorable, Christopher Tufton, and project implementing partners, the Warnath Group, opened the sixth Child Friendly Space, (CFS), as part of the nearly $6.7-million U.S.-Jamaica Child Protection Compact Partnership.

These safe spaces are designed to be inviting and comforting to child victims who are removed from trafficking or other serious crime situations so that they can be examined, interviewed, and referred for appropriate care and services.  The goal is to minimize trauma to children who are victims of trafficking and other serious crimes, to facilitate a multidisciplinary approach to victim care and assist criminal justice stakeholders in conducting effective investigations and prosecutions.

The CFS also includes the a Child Guidance Clinic, which will offer psychiatric care for children, counseling, and family therapy.  The clinic will host psychiatric nurses, psychologists, and social workers to work with atrisk children and children with behavioral problems.  It will support children ages 5 to 18, and when necessary, younger children.
