U.S. Government donates $12 million in Medical Supplies to Cornwall Regional Hospital

On Friday, August 25, 2017 the United States Government officially presented J$12 million in medical supplies to the Cornwall Regional Hospital. The ceremony was held at the Jamaica Defense Force Air Wing.

Chargé d’Affaires Eric Khant formally delivered the items to Minister of Health, Dr. the Honorable Christopher Tufton, who was accompanied by Chief Executive Officer of the Cornwall Regional Hospital, Dr. Anthony Smikle.  Mr. Khant said “I am extremely happy to support the Government and people of Jamaica. I am confident these supplies will positively impact the hospital’s delivery services in surgery, emergency care, neo-natal and general practice.”

Minister Tufton said the Ministry welcomed the supplies which will add significant value to the hospital in its delivery of health care services.  The Minister also stated that the donation will facilitate the diversion of funds to purchase other critical supplies for the hospital.

The contribution of medical supplies was made possible through the Children’s Medical Services International Incorporated, a U.S. non-governmental organization, in coordination with United States Agency for International Development and the U.S. Department of Defense.
