Earth Day celebration: On Friday, April 21, 2017, the Paul Robeson Information Resource Center at the U.S. Embassy hosted members of the USAID’s Caribbean Clean Energy Program (CARCEP) team in order to discuss “Jamaica’s Transition toa Green Energy Economy” with a group of participants from academia, the public sector, and the private sector. Speaking on behalf of the US Government, Political/Economic Counselor at the US Embassy, Christian Redmer asserted that Jamaica is an important partner in clean energy and is seen as a regional leader in the sector.
Clean Energy Specialists from the CARCEP program guided participants through Jamaica’s current energy landscape and demonstrated how the island can improve its energy efficiency through renewable energy generation solutions. The presentation was followed by an engaging discussion on the importance of establishing effective policy and regulatory environments, as well as incentives for private and public sector investment.
